Each year, the Department of Mechanical Engineering looks for enthusiastic undergraduate students to work on summer research projects within the department.

5-8 positions will be open and opportunities will be available in all research areas/centers within the department.

* Center of Precision Metrology
* Center for Biomedical Engineering Systems
* NC Center for Motorsports and Automotive Research
* Materials Science Research
* Computation Modeling

Projects will be 10-12 weeks duration and weekly stipend will be $400.

* 2006 : May 29 - Aug 18; 12 weeks
* 2007 : May 21 - Aug 10; 12 weeks
* 2008 : June 2 - Aug 8; 10 weeks

Overall Process:
January: Announcement of the program by SREU executive committee.
March 1: Deadline for application.
Middle March: Distribution of project description.
Advising Week: Students interview with the faculty associated with the projects of interest to them. Both students and faculty will submit preferences to SREU committee.
Late March: Matches to be done by SREU committee.
Early April: Notification of Successful students.
Late May: SREU program starts.
Orientation seminar will be held.
Middle August: SREU program ends.
Final presentation (both oral and poster) will be held.
