BSME with Motorsports Concentration
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree may choose to add a concentration in Motorsports. The BSME w/ Motorsports Concentration curriculum is similar to the BSME curriculum with three primary exceptions:

  • One additional credit hour is included in the sophomore year with the MEGR 2299 Motorsports Clinic I.
  • All BSME students are required to complete Technical Elective courses, usually during the senior year. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers approximately 30 different Technical Elective courses. However, students pursuing the BSME w/ Motorsports Concentration are required to enroll in approved motorsports Technical Electives only. Approved motorsports Technical Electives include Automotive Power Plants, Road Vehicle Dynamics, Aerodynamics, and many other excellent courses (course offerings vary each semester).
  • During the senior year, motorsports students enroll in MEGR 3355/3356 Motorsports Clinic II/III and complete an intensive, two-semester motorsports/automotive related engineering project. These clinic courses are equivalent to Senior Design I/II in the BSME curriculum.

Furthermore, students in the motorsports concentration are strongly encouraged to participate on one of the four competition teams (go to http://www.coe.uncc.edu/motorsports/index.php for more information regarding the teams):

  • Formula SAE
  • SAE Mini-Baja
  • Legends Racing
  • Drag Car

How to Enroll in the Motorsports Concentration:
Students wishing to enroll in the motorsports concentration must apply to enter the program after completing the first semester, sophomore year courses (i.e., MEGR 2141, PHYS 2102, and MATH 2241). An overall GPA of 2.5 is required for admission into the motorsports concentration. Students can find the Motorsports Concentration Application in the ME office (Duke 380).
